SPIRE Reading Program
Learning to read is the most important academic skill in a child’s life. It is the thread that weaves together knowledge and critical thinking and creates limitless opportunities for independent learning. Reading, however, is a skill that is not easily acquired by some. It takes time and practice, a good teacher, and thorough curriculum. For this reason, RCA uses the SPIRE program to help struggling readers increase their skills and confidence in reading.
The SPIRE reading program is designed specifically for struggling readers with the teacher at the center of instruction. RCA's SPIRE instructor is Mrs. Kathy Gates who is an Orton-Gillingham trained teacher. One key component of Mrs. Gates' class time with her students is multi-sensory instruction and the use of hands-on materials. Both tactile experiences and kinesthetic movement create and reinforce important learning pathways. SPIRE students meet with Mrs. Gates twice per week in one-on-one and group settings.
Pathway to Learning
RCA’s Pathway to Learning Program is designed to offer support for students who need a more individualized learning path. Our goal is for all RCA students to have what they need to be successful academically.
Those participating in our PTL program may need support in one or more of the following areas:
- a PTL plan for classroom accommodations or modifications
- early intervention in core subjects
- additional support from another adult while in a classroom setting*
* Some PTL opportunities require an additional fee. Please contact your school principal for more information.
